Environmental Educator (12 month position), starts November (start date flexible). You will serve at the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation with the Division of Public Affairs, one of the host sites in the Hudson Valley Conservation Project, located in Long Island City, New York. The primary focus for these positions will be in Mt. Loretto, located on the south shore of Staten Island facing Raritan Bay. This property includes 194 acres, comprising five distinct habitats: tidal wetland, freshwater wetland, grassland, hardwood forest, and coastal marine. NYS DEC acquired the property in 1998.

Responsibilities include: Conduct public outreach programs, inventory existing environmental education programs on Staten Island, set up a resource library, and acquire materials to conduct interpretive programs. Develop pilot environmental education programs targeting local schools, civic organizations, and the general public aimed at increasing community awareness of and involvement with the site.
Training Opportunities: Wilderness First Aid Certification, Hudson Valley ecology and environmental issues, and on-the-job training. Require: BA/BS in biology, environmental science, education, or related field; good writing and public speaking skills. Desire: Experience working with the public, especially groups of children, in educational settings. Additional Information: Personal transportation is recommended. Position Code: HVLORE1-1.
